Wine, women and wasabi

When the Spiceblogger comes to town, minds and stomachs lightly turn to food.

In this Saturday's Caulfield Gup, the vice-regal rent will be precariously balanced on the nose of one of these of noble descendents of the legendary proconsul, Incitatus.

GREY SONG
DESERT WAR
STRASBOURG

Lady Livia has a hankerin' for AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN'.

LATE MAIL:- WINNING BELLE.

THE GUP WASH UP.

GREY SONG - Usual honest effort. (Nice place dividend.) Look for a similar effort in the Melbourne Gup, if there's a bit of cut in the track. Won't win though. The equine Costello. Always knocking on the door. Yet to win a big one.

DESERT WAR - Couldn't see out the distance. Last of those that finished. (We forgot the cardinal rule of the Melbourne Spring Carnival, Gai doesn't play well in away games.)

STRASBOURG - Boynton was on the ball, a worrisome name for a horse.

AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' - A plugger, worth a place ticket in "the big one". (Lady Livia is presently standing by the phone awaiting news of the birth of the second grandchild, by Keystone Salute out of The Wallflower, destined to be the winner of the 2008 Inter Dominion Trotting Championship - or coming to a tin of Pal near you soon.)

WINNING BELLE - Ditto.

Runs of the race pointing to the Melbourne Gup. VOUVRAY and MAKYBE DIVA. (Now close to the Let's Elope class)

(UPDATE. Aforementioned impending grandchild - a boy, arrived 4 p.m. 17/10. BIG and brown with one black foot.)
